Watercolour Portraits

Watercolour is a delicate medium that has a mind of its own - and I love it for exactly that reason.

Soft, loose brush strokes create shapes and shadows, layers create depth, and a fine paint brush adds those finishing touches.

Price from £140.

Pet Portraits in Watercolour

Kent, Watercolour on A4

Whether it is a glowing headshot, or an entire majestic scene, if you have a photograph of it, I can recreate it in watercolours for you.

Jessie, Jaspa, and Marie, Watercolour on A4

She is my largest watercolour painting to date!

Maya’s owner wanted a portrait of her to go alongside previous portraits of her two dogs Aztec and Ivy, done by another artist she could no longer locate.

The goal was to create a piece that would seamlessly sit alongside them on her wall, matching in size, composition, and expression. I worked closely with Maya’s owner to ensure the portrait would do just that.

The paper used was a smooth untextured watercolour paper sized 500 × 700 mm.

Meet Maya.

Maya’s Portrait

Here you can see Maya’s portrait proudly on the wall next to Aztec and Ivy.

All my portraits are uniquely priced, based on the cost of materials + the time I believe it will take me to complete the project.

The below table offers an idea of approximate costs for watercolour paintings completed on standard 300gsm textured* watercolour paper.

Unique Watercolour Projects

One of the more unique projects I've had the opportunity to work on was the recreation of these two pieces - originally painted by the late Danish artist Christel Marott.

Recreations of Christel Marott’s Tarot Paintings

Accurately reproducing an image - whether a beloved pet or something else entirely - is something I take great pride in. So when Howard came to me hoping to recreate two lost artworks, I was thrilled to take on the challenge.

Both pieces required considerable time and research to ensure they were as faithful to the original rough sketches as possible. It was a genuinely exciting project to be part of and I share much more about it over on my projects page!

Original Watercolour Artwork

Watercolours have always been a staple in my life - rarely has there been a holiday where my travel-sized watercolour pallet hasn’t joined me!

While I adore creating commissions for my clients, nothing beats a painting done for fun. I am far from understanding the medium to it’s fullest extent, but that makes the playful experimentation all the more exciting!

Take a peek at a couple of the originals I have painted over the years, and keep an eye out for new prints and originals for sale!

Amsterdam canal, painted from an original photo. The painting glows under a blacklight!
Sherlock, my Mum's Tortoise, painted in watercolours (with a cheeky touch of gouache, fine-liner, and oil pastel!)
Night sky paintings are one of the few things I create without a reference photo, though astrophotography and stargazing are never far away for inspiration. You could paint the same concept a hundred times over in watercolours and each piece would be entirely unique - just like the night sky itself!
