Acrylic Portraits

Acrylic is one of my favourite mediums to work in. I love exploring colour, and I love that I learn something new with every painting I complete.

No matter the subject I’m focussing on, there’s something special about immersing myself in a painting project - the world is more colourful than when I’m working in my usual black & white pencils.

Prices start from £140.

Ambi in the Sunflowers - 200 × 200mm Deep Set Canvas

One of my favourite things to paint as of late has been portraits that combine my love of animals with the joy that flowers and colours bring. I have been creating these pieces in both larger form paintings (as seen on this page), and in tiny portraits (see my acrylic minis).

I am happy to paint on almost any canvas type, or size.

Above you can see a painting of a dear friend’s beautiful late German Shepherd ‘Rex’, completed (by request) directly on the artboard from a second-hand frame that his owner acquired.

The textures from the previous painting created an entirely unique canvas to work on - textures that would have otherwise been absent from this particular character filled piece.

I have completed painting commissions that extend from bespoke wall murals, art touch ups and even custom watch dials;
there is no project too weird!

Architecture in Acrylic Paint

I have been incredibly lucky to be trusted with not just creating portraits of your beautiful pets, but of your favourite places, too.

I absolutely adore losing myself in large-scale acrylic paintings. The universe is so much more colourful when I am working in paint; my brain pays particular attention to the hues and vibrancy of even the most mundane objects in the world around me.

The colour palette for this A3 sunny villa painting was so dreamy - the gentle sunrise casting pastel hues and long soft shadows was heavenly to paint.

When painting the reflections in the windows, I worked solely from the reference photo provided; I had absolutely no idea what shapes I was painting, only that they matched the photograph. After each painting session, I would lean back, and suddenly those marks I had painted had become plants, umbrellas, or glare - it truly is a fascinating process, even for me!

The main point I always teach my students is: trust. the. process!

This painting of Gonville & Caius College was my first A2 sized Acrylic Painting.

The reference photo for this piece was taken by the graduate that this painting was to be gifted to.

The stunning sunset colours were so much fun to work with - I actually surprised myself with how I captured the glow through the tree!

This stunning chalet offered me another incredible colour palette to work with when creating this A3 painting. (My clients do not disappoint with their reference photos!)

The bright sunlight in the original photo casts these deep dark shadows, creating a beautiful tonal contrast to the cream coloured rendering, the bright blue sky, and the vibrant crisp snow.

I am not often one to feel pride toward my own work, but stepping back from this piece and seeing the reflections appear in the upper windows, and the wood and stone textures coming to life… I was really quite chuffed! :-)
